What to expect… Shallow water has always been the focus of Captain Scott’s fishing. There are few sights on the Coast that get an angler’s heart racing like the sight of a large redfish feeding in inches of water. These fish can be caught with all types of tackle using different approaches. A pre-trip consultation with Captain Scott will help him customize the trip to meet your expectations.. With one or two anglers, Captain Scott’s Mitzi shallow water skiff makes miles of marsh and flats accessible for sight casting to feeding fish. Captain Scott will pole you through these areas and help you locate the fish. If you’ve never tried this style of fishing, it is a thrilling experience to watch the natural reaction of a predator to its prey. Another approach is the tried and true Texas tradition of wade fishing. Up to three anglers can be accommodated on a wading trip. There are many areas that offer hard sand bottoms with mixed grass and shell that are perfect for stalking on foot. A stealthy wader can often get within a few yards of a feeding fish. Some anglers feel that this is the ultimate thrill, hunting and fighting the fish on their own level. The third option is to take part in what is perhaps the fastest growing trend in saltwater angling – kayak fishing. A kayak trip gives an angler the opportunity to cruise silently into areas that most other fishermen never see. The sit-on-top kayaks used for this style of fishing are quiet, stable, and comfortable. With a few minutes of basic instruction beginners are on their way and loving the new found freedom that a kayak offers. Captain Scott is committed to providing his clients a great day on the water. He has personally embraced the philosophy of “catch, photograph, and release”, however, he is not a purist in this regard. If you wish to keep a few fish to take home that is perfectly acceptable. The Texas coastal fishery is healthy and thriving. Let’s try to keep it that way for future generations. |
