Types of Equipment…
The choice of gear is yours. You can bring your own equipment or use mine. I have quality gear available for any style of fishing you choose. If you bring your own gear I would suggest the following:

Fly Fishing…
A seven to nine weight rod with a reel capable of holding 100 yards of backing and a weight forward floating line. A tapered leader in the 12 lb range will work under most conditions. Practice casting in windy conditions to targets from 30 – 80’. I generally use flies in sizes from #2 through #8. Most standard saltwater patterns will work. If desired , bring some small poppers for some exciting top water strikes.

Bait casting and Spinning Gear…
A six to seven foot medium to light action rod and a reel with a good smooth drag will cover most circumstances. I generally use 10 to 17 lb line with 12 lb being the most common. The shorter rods make working a top water easier while the longer rods allow more distance when casting small jigs or spoons.

Lures…
There will be a good selection of lures available, but you can bring your own if you prefer. Be sure to bring a variety of medium to small top water lures. Mirrolure’s Top Dog Jr, She Dog, and Top Pup will work as will Excaliber’s Spook and Spook Jr. An assortment of soft plastics rigged weightless or with lightweight jig-head.is always a good choice. And the tradition ¼ ounce weedless gold spoon can often save the day when nothing else works.
